Emtek Frequently Asked Questions

What door preparation will work with Emtek door hardware?

The door preparations that Emtek products fit are tubular door prep, mortise door prep, and multipoint door prep.  Since each have their own uses there are spec’s to ensure each will fit your door.

Tubular - A 2 1/8” bore will be through the door and offset from the edge of the door to the center of the bore at either 2 3/8” or 2 3/4” backset.  This will determine the latch needed for your hardware.  If the door is over 2” or thicker we will need to know so we can have the correct hardware included.  The standard included is 2 3/8” backset that will fit a door that is between 1 3/8” and 1 7/8” thick.

Mortise - Since mortise box sizes are very different depending on the backset, function, and size it is best to email us with that information.

Multipoint - All multipoint door manufacturers are slightly different in the door prep we will need to know this information so we can select the proper configuration.  Please email for more information.

Is Emtek door hardware handed?

Yes and no.  Door knobs are non handed, but levers are unless the CF Version is selected (more below on the CF Version).  When handing a door please stand on the outside of the room to which you are entering.  Once there just look at which side the hinges are on and that is the handing of the door.  For example, if you are standing in a bedroom and are entering the bathroom and the hinges are on the right side then that is a right handed door.  Another example, if you are standing outside the home and are looking at the front door with the hinges on the left then that is a left handed door.

CF Version - The CF version is an upgrade to the standard that comes with concealed screws for a sleeker look, 28 degree rotation latch, and are non handed.  These will only work on doors up to 2 1/4” thick.

What type of privacy mechanism does Emtek use?

Emtek uses a pushpin on their privacy function hardware.  From the inside of the room simply push the pin to lock and to unlock form the inside simply turn the knob or lever to unlock.  To unlock from the outside in case of an emergency there is a small hole to use the emergency key.

Can you key all my Emtek items the same?

Yes.  When ordering please select the Keyed Alike option and then all items will be keyed to the same key.  Emtek uses the Schlage C keyway with can also be matched to several other brands if needed.
